Cooking Wild-Caught Seafood as a Way to Connect and Create

January 29th, 2026

Exploring One of WAC’s Core Values Through the Kitchen

Create shared experiences.

These words are drawn from Wild Alaskan Company’s core values — a collection of ideals that guide the company through growth and evolution, through periods of uncertainty and times of celebration.

But the words have taken deep root in me beyond WAC. It’s a mantra, of sorts — a reminder that each conversation, each encounter, each gathering is an experience that we share with one another.

Recasting everyday moments as a shared experience has, for me, revealed the incredible potential that even something as elemental as cooking a meal can hold. Cooking simply as a means of putting something on the table? Sometimes that’s the extent of it, and that’s exactly what you need.

But when you make space (or simply find the time), cooking can also be a way to partake in a recipe. A chance to celebrate the story and history and ephemerality of an ingredient. An opportunity to snap food pics to send to a friend. An act of care for others with whom you break bread, gathered around a kitchen table.

This week, I invite you to create your own shared experiences by exploring any (or all!) of those potentialities through a few recipes that I’ve hand-picked from the blog. They’re great for sharing with a friend or neighbor, for cooking up for a family, or even simply stashing away for yourself as delectable leftovers.

  • Fish Pie With Golden Potato Crust
  • Miso Corn Chowder
  • Chef Mandy Dixon’s Fisherman's Pot Pie
  • Fish Casserole with Buttery Almond Topping

Even the act of penning this weekly missive is a small moment for me to create a shared experience with you — so I am so grateful for you, dear members, for giving me this space to explore all of the ways we can connect through words and wild-caught seafood, even across the digital divide. Having you as part of this incredible fish family truly brings Wild Alaskan Company’s core values to life.

Live Wild,

Monica
