How Do I Use Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts

October 6th, 2022

Everything You Need to Know About This Convenient Cut of Fish

What Are Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts?

Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts are a convenient and quick-cooking preparation of this meaty white species. Hand-cut from the fillet into bite-sized pieces of fish, Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts are the perfect chunky, meaty bite of fish to use in a variety of recipes.

How to Thaw Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts

Defrost Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts the same way that you’d thaw Pacific halibut fillets:

  • Option 1: Remove the product from the package, then defrost overnight in the refrigerator. Cook within 1 to 2 days of defrosting.

  • Option 2: Remove the product from the package, transfer it to a resealable bag, then thaw it submerged in a cool bowl of water on the countertop for ~30 to 40 minutes. Cook immediately.

Can I Cook Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts from Frozen?

  • Yes! Add Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts — straight from the pack — into a soup, curry, or chowder in the final 10 minutes of cooking. Simmer the frozen block of fish gently until the pieces break apart easily, and then remove the pot from the heat to allow the pieces to fully poach through. Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts are done when opaque through the center.

Our Favorite Ways to Enjoy Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts

  • Bake Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts in a fish pie. As they cook, the halibut holds together nicely and stays tender and moist, making it an ideal protein to use in fillings for casserole-type dishes.

  • Fry Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts in a batter or breading. After a few minutes in hot oil, battered/breaded Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts transform into crispy, golden bites of fish — adding texture to tacos, wraps, or protein bowls.

  • Poach/simmer Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts from frozen. Because Pacific Halibut Quick Cuts are trimmed into smaller pieces, they thaw quickly and cook evenly when prepared from frozen. They can easily be cooked from frozen in soups/stews in the final moment of cooking.
