It’s -12°F but I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm

January 15th, 2026

Embracing the Winter Blues

It was -12°F on a recent drive from Homer to Anchorage. Stepping out of the warmth of a car or coziness of a cabin can still feel a bit like plunging into a cold pool. A cold so cold that the inside of my nostrils feels iced over. A cold so cold that I don’t even have the courage to change into pajamas at night from the layers of sweats donned throughout the day. A cold so cold that my heart rate quickens just getting into the car. Downright FRIGID.

And yet, in the throes of this ice-world, with hands furled into pockets and heads covered in woolens, and soup vapors smoky on our tabletops, as the song goes, I’ve got my love to keep me warm.

It’s true.

The softness of my baby daughter’s cheek silhouetted against our wood stove fire. The toothless grin of my six-year old who asks if the tooth fairy will come to Alaska. The attitude of the mountain range in her capes of white, gray and black. The human coziness of my husband Arron (WAC founder + CEO) whose hugs melt me every time. Indeed, I’ve got my love to keep me warm.

So, let’s hear it for the winter blues. Those indigo, celeste and navy hues that sparkle forth from sky and sea, blatantly ignoring the frigid temperatures with the sheer warmth of their expression. Those gorgeous chromatics that meld with the little glories given to us by the us-time of the winter season, the one that asks us to slow down. To be together. To just be.

Wishing you and yours the warm and fuzzies, wherever you are!

Live Wild!
