Color in the Air and at Our Feet

July 4th, 2024

Thoughts from an Alaskan Garden

In Alaska, the 4th of July traditionally coincides with the peak of the Bristol Bay sockeye run. On land, you’ll find a boomtime of harvests, too — fruit, vegetables, and blossoms and blooms everywhere in a dazzling arrangement of color and shape, all bursting forth from the earth in a botanical celebration of vitality. And in the sky this evening, I imagine many of you will be gazing up at fireworks set against the cosmos, finding a moment to connect with neighbors, friends, and community.

I hope the season is bringing you a burst of color and life, too, wherever you may find yourself today.

Live Wild,

Monica

Pictured above: a collage of plants currently in bloom at the Alaska Botanical Garden in Anchorage, where we had the pleasure of frolicking among the flora with our son, who kept asking me to snap photos of the flowers so that he would never forget them.
